Admissions

UCF College of Medicine (COM) is set to become the nation's premier medical school born in this century. As a new medical school, the COM will offer leadership opportunities and financial support to students in the Charter Class that are not available at any other medical school. UCF's M.D. Program allows students to prepare for careers in every discipline of medicine and to focus on an individualized area of study or research.

In addition to the individualized program, the basic sciences are integrated with the clinical sciences where each student can choose to train in many of the major specialty hospitals in the Orlando area. Training in both mock and live patient situations will be part of the program from day one.

The UCF College of Medicine consists of the M.D. Program and academic degrees within the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences (BSBS). For information and admissions to Ph.D., Masters, and Bachelor ’s degree programs offered by the BSBS, please visit www.biomed.ucf.edu.

On Target, on Time

Numerous organizations and associations are involved in the voluntary regulation of medical education in the United States. The primary accreditation organization for undergraduate medical education is the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). LCME (www.lcme.org) is the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to the M.D. degree in U.S. and Canadian medical schools. The LCME is sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Medical Association. All state licensing boards in the United States require graduation from an LCME-accredited school to be eligible for licensure as an allopathic physician.

Accreditation Process

LCME has a three-step process for granting accreditation to new medical schools:

  • Preliminary accreditation granted prior to recruiting the Charter Class of students
  • Provisional accreditation, granted during the second year of the Charter Class
  • Full accreditation granted during the fourth year of the Charter Class

UCF is on Track

Preliminary accreditation has been granted and we are now recruiting the second class of 60 students for Fall 2010 enrollment.
