We continue featuring physicians who serve as preceptors at UCF’s College of Medicine. Today we highlight Dr. Jose Torres-Miranda, a psychiatrist at the Orlando Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Preceptors play a key role educating third- and fourth-year medical students through clerkship, elective and acting internship training.

Dr. Torres-Miranda earned his M.D. degree at Ponce School of Medicine and completed Psychiatry residency training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center.  He has been site director for the Psychiatry clerkship at the Orlando VA’s mental health unit since 2021. Dr. Torres-Miranda is also the site director, for the UCF/HCA Psychiatry Residency program based at HCA Florida Osceola Hospital.

Dr. Torres-Miranda is known for his dedication and care to UCF College of Medicine learners. Here is what M.D. students have to say about his leadership:

  • “I thoroughly enjoyed my psychiatry rotation at the VA. My mentors seem to truly care about making this a learning experience and make a point of involving students in interactions w/ patients and formulation of a treatment plan.”
  • “I enjoyed my experience on the inpatient unit at the VA. I felt that I had a good learning experience and was an important part of the team. I felt that my contributions and work were valued and that the residents and attendings truly cared about teaching. It definitely made me consider psychiatry as a future career.”
  •  “The VA is an excellent spot to rotate for psychiatry. I had a great time with my attendings and residents. They dedicate much of their time to not only providing you a good basis to take the National Board of Medical Examiners exam, but also to the development of your career.”
