    Ms. Dexter is responsible for the successful start-up, planning, direction, and operation of all administrative and service functions of the Health Sciences Library. She is currently working with faculty and staff to create an environment that promotes growth, creativity and motivation throughout the College. She is also working on developing and applying technology tools for teaching, learning, assessment and outreach; as she is preparing for integrating library-training programs into the health sciences curricula and clinical environment. Nadine will also provide for the strategic use of knowledge resources and developing partnerships that support sources of external funding.

    Beginning in 2000 until her hiring at UCF in 2008, Dexter developed and implemented a plan for creating the newest medical library in the nation at Florida State University in Tallahassee. This task involved identifying both print and electronic resource providers for monographs, journals, databases and on-line journals that would fulfill the mission of the new College of Medicine. She also created a successful hiring plan for the library. In addition, Nadine developed, defined and implemented all medical library policies that affected collection development, patron usage, database vendors and cataloging. She was also responsible for managing a $1.5 million budget for medical library development.

    Deedra Walton joined the UCF College of Medicine faculty in 2009.  As Head of Electronic Resources, Ms. Walton successfully created an electronic resources collection for a new virtual health sciences library.  Her ongoing responsibilities include managing the library’s electronic resources budget, collection development, negotiating with vendors, partnering with UCF Legal Counsel to license electronic resources, content management and maintenance of electronic resources on the library’s website, managing the library’s ez-proxy for off-campus access, cataloging, and serving as acting director in the absence of the library director.

    Ms. Walton is the personal librarian for a group of students as part of the library’s personal librarian program.  In this role she also provides support in the Practice of Medicine 1 and 2 modules and the Focused on Individual Research Experience (F.I.R.E).  Additionally, she serves as a faculty library liaison to multiple College of Medicine curriculum modules.  Ms. Walton is responsible for maintaining the official College of Medicine student textbook list displayed on the Health Sciences Library’s website.

    Prior to UCF, Ms. Walton was the Systems Librarian for the Health Sciences Library at Orlando Health.

    Ms. Walton has a M.L.S. in Library Sciences from Texas Woman’s University.  She is an active member in the Medical Library Association, Southern Chapter/Medical Library Association and the Florida Health Sciences Library Association.  She is a distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) and is an assigned mentor to several provisional AHIP members.  Ms. Walton also a member of the Florida Collaboration of Academic Libraries of Medicine (FCALM) and is responsible for negotiating statewide deals for electronic resources on behalf of the 8 academic libraries in Florida.  Ms. Walton also represents the Florida academic medical libraries on the Florida Council of State University Libraries (CSUL) Collection Advisory Committee and Shared Information Task Force.

    Shalu Gillum, JD, MLS, AHIP is Head of Public Services for the Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in Orlando, Florida. Ms. Gillum is responsible for managing library public services, including reference, instruction, and promotion. She provides support to faculty, students, and staff in the areas of research, literature searching, and copyright compliance. Ms. Gillum received her certificate in Copyright Management from the Special Libraries Association.

    Beginning in 2005 until her hiring at UCF in 2010, Ms. Gillum worked as a licensed Florida attorney in South Florida and Central Florida in the areas of real estate, probate, family law and general corporate law. While receiving her Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, she was awarded the National Library of Medicine and Medical Library Association joint Spectrum Scholarship, which promotes diversity in the library and information science field. In 2017 she became an alumni of Florida’s Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute.

    Pamela Herring joined the Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library in September 2012 as an Electronic Resources Librarian.  As an Electronic Resources Librarian, Ms. Herring is responsible for assisting with collection development, negotiating and licensing electronic resources and content management, and maintenance of electronic resources on the library’s website.

    Ms. Herring was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, a distinction not many Floridians can make!  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Literature from the University of Central Florida, and worked as a Student Assistant in the UCF library her last semester there.   It was during that time she found her love of Librarianship.  She applied to the University of South Florida and earned a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.  She worked at Keiser University as Assistant Librarian, then moved back to Orlando and started part time at the Osceola Library System, where gradually she went from part-time Librarian I to full time Librarian II over the course of 6 years.  During the course of her career at OLS, she was responsible for reference assistance, staff development, ordering print and electronic materials, maintaining the website, creating graphics, computer and technology training, and other miscellaneous duties.  She’s also worked part-time at Valencia College as a Copy Cataloger.

    Natasha Williams joined the Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library team in September 2010 as a Library Technical Assistant, and now serves as the User Services Librarian. She is responsible for creating various library promotional and informational displays and materials, works closely with the Head of Public Services to market and promote library events and services, and assess the needs of the different groups of patrons that utilize the library space.

    Natasha holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from the Florida State University, as well as a certificate in Information Architecture. Professionally, she holds memberships in a number of library organizations, including the Medical Library Association, the Florida Health Sciences Library Association, and the American Library Association.

    Terri Gotschall joined the Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library team in October of 2017 as the Scholarly Communications Librarian. In her role, she helps authors navigate the complex and rapidly changing publication environment. This includes protecting author’s intellectual property, open access, and alternative publishing methods. Scholarly communication ensures the knowledge created in the lab makes it out into the world.

    Prior to joining the College of Medicine, she worked at UCF’s Office of Technology Transfer as a research promotions coordinator. Terri earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University, as well as a certificate in Information Architecture.

    Raney Collins joined the Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library in September 2011 as a Senior Library Technical Assistant.  She holds an Associates in Arts degree from Valencia Community College. Raney joins the library from a multitude of experiences, most recently working as a background screening investigator for nuclear power plant access. Prior to that Raney has worked as a project manager in corporate construction, an animal services officer, and a veterinary technician.

    In addition to her primary tasks, the management of mobile technical devices, such as iPads, iPods, Android tablets, and laptops, to the faculty, staff, and students, Raney can also be found at the circulation desk to aid and answer any questions you might have.

    Nadia J. Fortune joined the COM Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library in May 2015 as a Senior Library Technical Assistant. Her duties include assisting patrons at the circulation desk, and checking to make sure the links of all library e-resources work. She also serves on special projects for the Public Services Department, and assists with compiling for articles for faculty conducting research. Nadia enjoys every aspect of her work!

    She holds a 3 year Diploma in Fashion Design from The London College of Fashion in England. Prior to joining the Health Sciences Library, Nadia worked in a variety of fields, including retail and merchandising, customer service, elementary education, and in RN nurse training.

    Melodie Gardner joined the library in March 2010 as a Senior Library Technical Assistant. She received her Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida in 2014, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Central Florida. Melodie comes to the Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library from the public library system, and has several years of customer service experience. She works primarily at the Circulation desk and ensures that all the links to the library’s electronic resources are working correctly and are up-to-date. Melodie is also responsible for the creation of library resource guides, known as Library Guides, for the College of Medicine courses.

    Amelia Strickland joined the Health Sciences Library in November 2015 as a Senior Library Technical Assistant. As part of the Public Services team, Amelia provides assistance to students, faculty, and staff at the library’s circulation desk. She also helps promote the library’s services, resources, and events within the College of Medicine. It is her goal to ensure that every library patron has the best possible experience while engaging with the library’s many offerings.

    A Knight at heart, Amelia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Central Florida, where she is now pursuing her Master’s degree.
