The Peer Support Program at the UCF College of Medicine is a student-led initiative designed to promote mental wellness, academic success, and a sense of community among medical students. The program connects students with trained peer supporters who offer confidential, nonjudgmental support on a wide range of personal, academic, and professional challenges.
Peer supporters are trained upperclassmen who understand the unique pressures of medical education. They are equipped with skills in active listening, empathy, and resource referral through ongoing training and faculty guidance. Whether students are facing burnout, exam stress, imposter syndrome, interpersonal difficulties, or just need someone to talk to, the Peer Support Program provides a safe and accessible space to be heard.
Key features of the program include:
- Confidential one-on-one conversations
- Weekly in-person and virtual walk-in hours
- Focus on wellness, resilience, and community
- Referrals to professional resources when needed
- Outreach events and wellness workshops
This program complements formal mental health services by offering relatable, peer-based support from someone who “gets it.” By fostering a culture of empathy and openness, the Peer Support Program helps reduce stigma around seeking help and reinforces the importance of student well-being in the medical journey.

Meet with a Peer Supporter for a place to vent about life in general. You can get some tips on relaxation, support from someone who’s been through the M1 year of medical school, or just some company while you study.
A licensed therapist will always be available for consultation or in case of emergency.
