UCF Health, the College of Medicine physician practice, has added a new primary care doctor at its Lake Nona location.
Dr. Pierce Trumbo is a board-certified general internist with interests in medical education, public health and quality improvement efforts.
Dr. Trumbo graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2017, completed his internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2020, and served as a Chief Medicine Resident from 2020 to 2021.
Before joining UCF, Dr. Trumbo worked as a hospitalist at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford, a community hospital in Murfreesboro, TN, and at Duke University and Regional Hospitals in Durham, NC. Raised in New Smyrna Beach, Dr. Trumbo was eager to bring his family back to Central Florida. His wife is also a physician specializing in pathology and the couple have a 1-year-old son named Silas and a 100-pound Ridgeback dog named Mr. Houston.
“UCF struck me as a wonderful opportunity to teach, join a growing medical practice, and pursue my other interests in quality improvement and population health in the long run,” he said.
During his time at Vanderbilt for medical school and residency, Dr. Trumbo participated in various QI and research projects and held leadership positions at Shade Tree Clinic, Vanderbilt’s free clinic for uninsured patients. Prior to medical school, he worked in immunization for the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), and he has since consulted with PAHO/WHO and the Sabin Vaccine Institute.
As a primary care specialist, Dr. Trumbo said his priority is to partner with his patients to prevent disease through screenings, diet and exercise and, when supported by medical evidence, medications. He said he also wants to address acute medical problems to keep patients from having to make unnecessary visits to urgent care centers and emergency rooms.
“I want to form a therapeutic relationship with patients over time to help them meet their goals of living a longer and heathier life,” he said.
