Honorees are selected based on their academic and scientific contributions to the field as well as their potential to become future ASEMFL inductees. This year, 19 Rising Star awards will be given to mid-career academics from public and private universities in the state.
Dr. Taliaferro was recognized for her work addressing social inequities and health disparities among LGBTQ+ youth and by identifying modifiable factors that protect them against suicide and facilitate healthcare utilization.
