This year the UCF Alumni Association and College of Medicine selected Dr. Michael Makowski for the Professional Achievement Award presented at the 2015 Black & Gold Gala on Oct. 22. The award winners are presented to alumni from each UCF college for excellence in respective fields. This year’s celebration was the 35th year the alumni association has recognized alumni who “Reach for the Stars.”
The now Dr. Makowski earned his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology/microbiology in 1980 from what is now the College of Medicine’s Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of South Florida in 1984, did his internship at Greenville Hospital System in South Carolina, and his residency at the Medical College of Georgia.
An ophthalmologist, Dr. Makowski is a partner with Tomoka Eye Associates, Daytona’s largest and most popular ophthalmology group, with multiple subspecialists and the latest diagnostic technology. His focus is on cataract surgery, glaucoma, oculoplastics and corneal transplant.
Dr. Makowski lives in Ormond Beach and is married to fellow Knight Sandi (Wing), ’80, and they have two adult sons.
