Assistant Professor of Pathology

Course Director, Foundations Module

Dr. Hatem Kaseb is an academic pathologist and physician-scientist with specialized expertise in Hematopathology, Gynecologic Pathology, and Medical Education. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Pathology in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine. In his clinical role, he practices as an attending pathologist within the HCA Healthcare East Florida Division, where he oversees complex hematopathology and oncologic cases, directs diagnostic sign-out, and serves on the hospital tumor board. At UCF, Dr. Kaseb is involved in multiple courses and he is currently the Course Director for the Foundations Module, leading foundational medical education and curriculum development for first and second-year medical students.

Dr. Kaseb’s academic and clinical achievements have been recognized with several prestigious honors, including the UCF College of Medicine Clinical Excellence Award and the Early Career Investigator Award for Achievement in Research. He also previously received the Chair’s Challenge Award for Research from the Yale School of Medicine. He is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Hematopathology by the American Board of Pathology.

His educational background includes a medical degree from Cairo University, followed by a PhD in Human Genetics and an MPH in Public Health Genetics from the University of Pittsburgh. His doctoral research focused on cancer genetics, head and neck cancer,  and the molecular mechanisms of tumorigenesis. Dr. Kaseb completed his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Yale New Haven Hospital and subsequently pursued fellowship training in Hematopathology at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Kaseb is a prolific researcher and educator, having authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals such as Nature Communications, Gene Chromosome and Cancer, Cancer Cytopathology, and the American Journal of Surgical Pathology. His research interests span medical education, myeloid neoplasms, gut microbiome, head and neck cancer biology, bone sarcoma pathogenesis, and the integration of artificial intelligence in medical education. He serves as an Associate Editor for Genetic Testing and Molecular Biomarkers and is a dedicated mentor to medical students through the UCF FIRE (Focused Research Inquiry Experience) program. Dr Kaseb is also currently serving and/or have served in local and national committees such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), Association of Professors of Human and Medical genetics (APHMG) and Florida Society of Pathology (FSP). Dr. Kaseb is an active Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP).
