The UCF College of Medicine said a collective thank-you to faculty and staff for their contributions with a Faculty and Staff Appreciation event on July 20.
“Our College of Medicine is reaching many milestones, and we rarely find time in our busy schedules to say ‘thank-you,’ said Dr. Deborah German, vice president for medical affairs and dean of the medical school. “Each and every one of us makes a huge contribution.”
Faculty and staff were honored at lunch at three locations: the First Floor Concourse at the medical education building at Lake Nona; the HPA II Building on the main UCF Campus, which houses the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences; and at UCF Health, the college’s clinical practice.
The event was a hit with everyone from longtime faculty and staff to “newbies.”
“I’ve met a lot of great people and am looking forward to working with everyone,” said instructional technologist John Sexton, who marked his first day on the job with the celebration and joked, pointing at the food, “I expect this every day from now on.”
Others said the event helped them see people they don’t normally cross paths with at work and provided, as Dr. Annette Khaled, associate professor at the Burnett School said, “a good time for all of us to slow down, reflect and enjoy the moment.”
There was also plenty of time for fun. At UCF Health, everyone gathered for a team photo and showed off their “jazz hands.”
“It’s nice to meet with people outside of our normal activities,” said Amanda Colee, director of academic support services at the Burnett School. “We sometimes forget how important it is to laugh with our colleagues.”
