Faculty physicians at UCF Health not only teach and care for patients in the community. They can pitch! Dr. Abdo Asmar, a UCF Health nephrologist, demonstrated his baseball skills by throwing out the first pitch April 17 as the UCF Knights defeated Florida Atlantic 12-3 at Jay Bergman Field.

UCF Health, the College of Medicine’s clinical practice, sponsored the game as part of the college’s Healthy Days and Knights partnership with UCF Athletics. The partnership includes College of Medicine signage at UCF athletic contests and health tips from UCF Health physicians offered during coaches’ television and radio shows.

Dr. Asmar said he was nervous that a bad first pitch might jinx the nationally ranked Knights.  “As a sports fan, it was a great honor to throw the first pitch and represent UCF Health,” he said. “I’m relieved that after getting the game ball, the Knights scored a lot of runs and won.”
