College of Medicine faculty and staff celebrated the holiday season and outstanding achievement Dec. 13 at the annual awards banquet.
Dr. Deborah German, vice president for health affairs and medical school dean, opened the event with thanks to all. “Your hard work, passion and commitment are making a difference – to our students, patients, scientific discovery and our entire community,” she said. “We are stronger, healthier and wiser today because of the work you do.”
Martha McGill, president of the Central Florida Region for Nemours Children’s Health, received the Dean’s Award for outstanding support of the College of Medicine. It is the medical school’s most prestigious award.
McGill was honored for her partnership in creating the college’s new UCF College of Medicine – Nemours Children’s Health Department of Pediatrics. Every UCF medical student receives their pediatrics training at Nemours. The new department expands that partnership in education, research and community care. Dr. German called Nemours an “outstanding community partner who shares our commitment to healthy children,” adding that the new department will “set a new standard for pediatric academic programs…and bolster the recruitment and retention of tomorrow’s pediatrics specialists.”
