Dr. Marcy Verduin is the UCF College of Medicine’s first Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, a role that unifies leadership over the curriculum the college teaches students and the support services that make them successful in med school and beyond. Dr. Verduin will take over her new role on April 10.

She was selected through an internal search that recognized her demonstrated leadership at medical school and at the national level.

“Dr Verduin has an established track record for leadership and scholarship both at UCF and on the national level,” said Dr. Deborah German, vice president for health affairs and founding dean of the UCF College of Medicine. “She will bring stability and innovation to a program that has been created and led by a great team.”

Dr. Verduin joined the medical school as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry in 2007, two years before we welcomed our first class. She played a key role in developing our four-year curriculum and was named Associate Dean for Students in 2010. As a clinician, she has provided care at the Orlando VA Medical Center and UCF Health Faculty Physician Practice. She has served as national Chair of the Group on Student Affairs for the Association of American Medical Colleges.

A psychiatrist and addictions specialist by training, Dr. Verduin served as President of the American College of Psychiatrists and the Association for Academic Psychiatry. She is also a Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists and the American Psychiatric Association. Both fellowships honor her significant contributions to the field of psychiatry in education, research and patient care.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as the inaugural Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education at the College of Medicine,” she said. “I’ve been committed to seeing the college flourish and thrive since I joined the faculty in 2007, and I’m excited to collaborate with our faculty, staff and students to strengthen and grow our educational program.”
