Dr. Deborah German, UCF’s vice president for health affairs and dean of its College of Medicine, has been selected to chair the Alliance of Academic Health Centers’ Steering Committee, which provides leadership in strategic planning and innovation to advance the nation’s academic health centers and health systems.
The Alliance includes academic and business leaders who work collectively to improve healthcare, increase biomedical research and advance medical education.
As vice president for health affairs, Dr. German leads UCF’s Academic Health Sciences Center, which includes the colleges of Health Professions and Sciences, Medicine, Nursing and UCF’s Student Health Services.
The AHSC is striving to co-locate many of the university’s clinical training programs to Medical City at Lake Nona, to increase interdisciplinary medical research, education and patient care. Lake Nona is home to UCF’s medical school as well as UCF Lake Nona Hospital, a partnership academic hospital with HCA Healthcare, and UCF Lake Nona Cancer Center. UCF’s new College of Nursing building will break ground next to the medical school in January 2024.
The Alliance of Academic Health Centers is focused on addressing current issues facing academic health centers across the nation and world, including staffing shortages, the need to bring more diversity to the healthcare workforce, and ways to increase funding for translational medical research.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues, health system CEOs and leaders from across the nation,” Dr. German said of her new leadership appointment. “We will strive to learn best practices from each other and provide the highest quality care to our communities.”
