Biography
Josephine Nabayinda, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Central Florida and a member of the Violence Against Women Faculty Cluster. Her research focuses on understanding and addressing the structural determinants of health that shape the well-being of women, adolescents, and families, particularly in underserved and marginalized communities.
Using community-engaged and mixed-methods approaches, her work examines the intersections of HIV, mental health, intimate partner violence, and gender inequality across the life course. Her research seeks to design, adapt, and implement evidence-based interventions that improve health outcomes and access to care for adolescent girls and young women. More recently, her work has expanded to investigate extreme weather events as an emerging structural determinant of health and its influence on violence, mental health, and HIV-related outcomes.
Drawing on more than nine years of community-based research experience in Uganda and ongoing collaborations in the United States, Dr. Nabayinda is committed to developing scalable, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive interventions that promote health equity. Her work has been published in leading journals, including The Lancet, Journal of Adolescent Health, Social Science & Medicine, AIDS and Behavior, and Prevention Science.
