A new school year brings new students and new opportunities for learning and service, including the annual Greater Orlando Heart Walk, where we can come together for a fun, heart-healthy event — for a good cause.

The 2015 walk is on Saturday, September 12 on the main UCF campus and Dr. Deborah German, vice president for medical affairs and dean, is leading the College of Medicine team.

“Each year, I walk with my dad, who at 88 enjoys an active, full life thanks to the kind of heart disease treatment and research we are doing at the medical school,” she said. “The walk is a great way to celebrate good health and raise money to help cure heart disease, the leading cause of death in America.

Some of the Heart Association’s research dollars currently fund scientific studies at the medical school.

The Orlando Heart Walk’s goal is to raise $1.5 million.
