Dr. Jose Borrero, assistant professor of surgery, recently held special sessions on suturing for medical students.

Students practiced their stitches on pig’s feet, which Dr. Borrero had purchased at Publix before the exercise.

So are the medical students ready to become surgeons? “Not yet,” says Dr. Borrero. “That’s why they are practicing. Becoming a surgeon is a little bit more complicated than suturing a pig’s foot.”
