Planning to swap their white coats for dresses and tuxedos, College of Medicine students are organizing the 5th annual Hygeia Gala on Saturday, February 13 at the Orlando Museum of Art. Students invite faculty and staff to attend the celebration, which will feature food, drinks and entertainment in a collegial atmosphere.

“This is the biggest event put on by the students, and we want to leave an impact so that the tradition continues and people look forward to it every year,” said Class of 2017 Treasurer Jeremy Driscoll. “People shouldn’t feel like they need to bring a date to this event,” Driscoll said. “It’s a celebration of friendship and community here at the College of Medicine.”

Events will include a live ‘80s and ‘90s cover band, photo booth and  food choices featuring pasta, carving stations, vegetarian and dairy-free options.

Admission for the evening is $30 for students and $40 for faculty, staff, family and friends of the college. Proceeds will go to the Match Day fund for the Class of 2017. A silent auction will also be held, featuring gift cards and baskets, along with some handmade items from members of the College of Medicine community. Attendees are encouraged to dress in cocktail to formal attire.

Organizers are looking forward to another night of laughs and memories with their fellow students and the faculty and staff members that they interact with on a daily basis. “We’ve had a great time learning and getting to know faculty and staff in the classroom—they’re a lot of fun people!” said Class of 2017 Vice President, Eileen Grigson.  “It’s all about making memories that we can take away, and having that sense of community continually with you.”
