In the spirit of the holidays, the American Medical Association UCF College of Medicine chapter is teaming up with the Salvation Army to help provide gifts to underprivileged children in our community.
The college has been provided with stockings to fill with gifts that will be distributed to local children ages 7-12. Gifts do not need to be expensive or elaborate. The Salvation Army suggests hair accessories, jewelry, colored pencils, coloring books, bath items and stuffed animals or small dolls for girls. For boys, a toy car, comic books, plastic army men, small hand-held games, marbles, jacks or a ball are suggested. For both sexes, the Salvation Army suggests markers, pens, a comb, key chain, toothbrush and toothpaste and a disposable camera.
Stockings are available for pick up outside of the Student Affairs office on the first floor of the medical education building. When you take a stocking, please sign it out on the form provided. Stuffed stockings can be returned at the drop-off box in the same location. Please label the stocking according to the gender of gifts (“boy,” “girl,” or “unisex”). Please return the stockings by December 13 to ensure an on-time delivery to the children.
A few other tips from the Salvation Army: Please do not gift wrap items in the stockings and do not include food, money, or notes.
