Steve Omli, the College of Medicine’s director of business and finance/auxiliary services, has been recognized for his efforts to automate and streamline the college’s budget processes.

He received the best community engagement award at a conference held last month in Chicago by the company Adaptive Planning for users of its cloud-based, corporate management software.

“The software makes the budget process easier for complex organizations like the College of Medicine,” said Steve, who was saluted for organizing an Adaptive Planning conference at the College of Medicine in October 2011.

Such a system saves time compared with spreadsheet-based models, such as Excel, that the finance team previously used. The software also allows multiple users to work on a document at the same time, encourages collaboration, and simplifies consolidating and reporting information, he said.

To encourage idea-sharing, Steve formed an Adaptive Community Users Group made up of about seven companies, such as Siemens, from around the state. He also is organizing another Adaptive Planning conference for September at Siemens ‘ Orlando office near UCF’s main campus.
