If you’re spending more time hunting for lost keys than you did last year, don’t panic. As you age, slight memory loss can be expected under certain conditions, says Dr. Mariana Dangiolo, College of Medicine assistant professor who specializes in geriatric medicine at UCF Health, the college’s physician practice.
In fact, approximately 60 percent of women undergoing perimenopause and menopause report difficulty remembering everyday information like names and phone numbers…or why they walked into a room.
“Stressful situations, life-changing events and even certain medications have been linked to mild cognitive impairment,” Dr. Dangiolo said.
Unfortunately, the fear of conditions like Alzheimer’s disease prevents many people from discussing memory loss with their doctors, she explained. UCF Health offers memory health evaluations.
