Starting in this week’s edition, COMmunique will include a feature on new hires at the UCF College of Medicine. Please welcome these new colleagues, who joined us in August.
Mary Hallowell joined the College of Medicine on August 3 as the coordinator of events and engagements in the Health Sciences Campus Operations Department. She will be responsible for supporting the planning and execution of College of Medicine events and engagements. Mary reports to Barbara O’Hara with a dotted line to Karen Smith. Her office is in 312H and her phone extension is 6-1213. Before coming to the college, Mary was the Manager of Executive Meetings at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center.
Mary Beth Gaard joined the college August 3 as the coordinator of statistical research in the Analysis, Accreditation, and Planning Department. She will be responsible for supporting the development of student assessment items and instruments and reports. Mary Beth reports to Dr. Basma Selim. Her office is located in 306N-3 and her phone extension is 6-1455. Before coming to the college, Mary Beth was a contract researcher at the Borlaug Institute in Texas.
Christopher Marron joined the college August 17 as the senior computer repair technician in the IT department. He will be responsible for technology needs for the medical education, clinical practice and research programs and will assist in the installation, configuration and maintenance of workstations, mobile devices and computer peripherals. Christopher reports to Andrew Butcher and his office is in 301Q and his phone extension is 6-4357. Before coming to the college, Christopher was the network and systems manager at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations.
Michael Aguirre joined the college on August 20 as the patient services collections specialist at UCF Health. He will be responsible for patient rebilling and account follow-up. Michael reports to Traci Briggs and is located at UCF Health. His phone number is 407-309-4813. Before coming to the college, Michael was the service center representative at Faneuil, Inc. and was a financial counselor at Orlando Health.
Steven Nunez joined the college August 20 as a certified medical assistant at UCF Health. He is responsible for assisting physicians, obtaining patient health histories, checking vital signs and working with the practice’s electronic health records. Steven reports to Linda Smelser and is located at UCF Health. His phone number is 407-309-4755. Before coming to the college, Steven was an ER Technician/Medical Assistant at the Holy Name Medical Center in New Jersey.
Latisha McCray joined the college August 31 as the coordinator of academic support services in the Student Affairs Department. She is responsible for assisting in the implementation of student academic support services for first- through fourth-year students. Latisha reports to Zoe Brown-Weissman. Her office is in 210J and her phone extension is 6-1393. Before coming to the college, Latisha was the coordinator of academic support services at UCF’s Department of Writing and Rhetoric.
Phillip Bellew joined the college August 6 as a program assistant in the Faculty and Academic Affairs Department. He is responsible for supporting the assistant dean of undergraduate medical education, coordinators, and the M-2 module directors in carrying out the curriculum. Phillip reports to Geovanna Abreu. His office is in 412E and his phone extension is 6-1118. Before coming to the college, Phillip was the Site Coordinator at Orlando Neurosurgery.
