Dr. Judy Simms-Cendan’s community health efforts across the globe are featured on Growing Bolder television.

As associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology and director of international experience at the UCF College of Medicine, Dr. Simms-Cendan takes students on yearly medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic, supports their work at the student-run free KNIGHTS Clinic and also leads the medical school’s interprofessional educational programs. Her goal: take care of her patients and teach students not only about medicine but about community service and teamwork. The clinic and medical mission trips are supported by the Diebel Legacy Fund at Central Florida Foundation.

Growing Bolder was founded by former WESH Channel 2 television personalities Marc Middleton and Bill Shafer to share inspiring stories of people making a difference and overcoming challenges. The group’s stories appear in print, on television and radio. Its first feature-length documentary, Conquering Kilimanjaro, followed 16 cancer survivors and supporters – including former WESH TV news anchor Wendy Chioji – to the summit of the world’s tallest free-standing mountain.
