The UCF College of Medicine recently received two Excellence awards in the Florida Technical Communication Competition for its web minisites and the use of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for creating an online community for the college.

Judges remarked that the minisites were interactive, informative and well-designed and that the internet communication helped inform and create an online community interested in the medical school. The judges also praised the interconnection between the minisites, the social sites and the College of Medicine’s main website

“It is very nice to see the new college’s online presence growing and building on a foundation of well-considered design and solid execution,” one of the judges wrote. “All the best to you going forward!”

The College of Medicine web team developed the minisites to support the October opening celebration, a press kit on the new medical education building, and opportunities for donors to purchase commemorative bricks for the new piazza. News about College of Medicine activities, faculty and staff members and students are shared through social media sites as well.

“We could not have done these web projects without the enthusiasm and expertise of a lot of people,” said Michael Lykhinin, coordinator of web services. “I want to congratulate and thank everyone for their hard work.”
