The Student Alliance for Integrative Medicine at the UCF College of Medicine is presenting “Becoming Heart Attack Proof,” on Thursday October 20 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in room 102 of the Medical Education Building.

The presentation will be given by Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., whose 20-year nutritional study provides extensive scientific evidence that we can prevent and end the heart disease epidemic in this country by changing to a plant-based, oil-free diet. His findings have been featured on CNN, Dr. Oz and in the widely acclaimed documentary, Forks Over Knives.

Dr. Esselstyn directs the cardiovascular prevention and reversal program at The Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute. He received his B.A. from Yale University and his M.D. from Western Reserve University. He was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. rowing team at the 1956 Olympics and was honored with the Bronze Star for his service as an Army surgeon in Vietnam.

His scientific publications number over 150 and he has been named one of “The Best Doctors in America.”

The Alliance for Integrative Medicine is a student-run organization that provides medical students with scholarly, educational and professional resources on complementary and alternative medical practices in the context of an integrated approach to medicine.
