Progress Policy

The progress policy exists to ensure student success and probability of degree completion while minimizing the risk of excess credit hours, debt, and time to completion. This policy applies to all students admitted, readmitted, or changing into any College of Medicine major beginning Summer 2020 and beyond.

It applies to all courses taken at UCF only and students will be notified after grades post at the end of each semester if they are not meeting the progress policy. Students who do not meet the progress policy are referred to the Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center (KMETC) to assist in choosing a new major outside of the College of Medicine.

There are three components to the Progress Policy detailed below.

Readmission after Disqualification

The Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences has established criteria for students seeking readmission into our majors after disqualification. It is extremely rare for students to obtain college support for readmission, but if a student has done exemplary academic work since being disqualified from UCF, we do have a committee that considers the application. If you do not meet minimum criteria, you are encouraged to consider other majors before submitting your application through the Registrar’s Office.

Minimum Criteria for Readmission into a College of Medicine major

  • 24 credit hours of academic work at another institution
    • At least 15 of those credit hours must be in hard sciences required for the degree, with A’s and B’s for final grades
  • A letter stating the reasons why you were disqualified, and what changes you intend to make if readmitted. We would also like to know why you are seeking readmission into this major and what your plans are after graduation.
  • Must meet the College of Medicine Restricted Access and Progress Policies above.
