Our research is focused on an area that brings together advances in materials science with medicine. Biomaterials and nanomedicine are the research area in our lab and efforts lie at the interface of musculoskeletal tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Work is in progress in the following areas: magnesium composite implants, and ultrasound-responsive gene delivery systems. By leveraging new emerging technologies, processes, and advanced materials, our lab will implement and test advanced platform technologies for biomedical intervention. The lab will develop innovative biomaterials, processes, and biointerfaces for advanced medical implants, and other future high-tech products (gene nanodelivery systems) with a focus on their clinical translatability. This research is highly interdisciplinary, combining an understanding of biology, materials science, and biomedical engineering to develop new bioactive materials, which can enhance vascular and tissue regeneration, improve diagnosis and efficacy of treatments.
