ABOUT DR. KHALED

Dr. Khaled received her Ph.D. from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. For her post-doctoral training, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Scott Durum at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), in Frederick, MD. Four years later, Dr. Khaled was awarded a competitive Career Development Award (K22) from the NCI and was recruited to the University of Central Florida (UCF) to join the newly formed Biomolecular Science Center, which later grew into the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences (BSBS) at the UCF College of Medicine (COM.)

She is currently a tenured professor. To date, her research at UCF has been funded by multiple RO1 grants from NIH and most recently the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to develop therapeutic peptides for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer. In addition to running a successful research program, Dr. Khaled teaches molecular immunology to  graduate students at UCF.  From 2010-2015, she was the coordinator of the Biomedical PhD program. In her lab, Dr. Khaled has trained seven PhD students, two Master’s students and is currently mentoring three pre-doctoral students. Her students have successfully embarked upon careers in academia, industry and technology transfer. In addition to currently leading the Division of Cancer Research, Dr. Khaled has had leadership positions as vice-president and then president of the COM Faculty Council, served two terms as a Faculty Senator, representing COM at the UCF Faculty Senate and Steering Committee, and chaired the UCF Graduate Council and Graduate Policy committee. To date Dr. Khaled has published over 90 manuscripts and abstracts and presented her research at numerous national and international scientific meetings.
