With 13 different board positions, we are confident in finding the perfect combination that aligns your interest with the work that needs to be done. The work accomplished by each committee has allowed this project to arrive to where it is today. Our clinic infrastructure allows for inclusiveness and accountability for improvements. Most importantly, our committee infrastructure allows our large group to take ownership and pride in their work. All students involved with the clinic have the responsibility to aid in the clinic’s success. The following is a short description of each board position involved in the functioning of the KNIGHTS Clinic.
Clinic Director: Clinic directors coordinate operations of the KNIGHTS Clinic board both inside and outside of clinic. They serve as both floor managers during clinic night and as an administrative director outside of clinic.
The clinic directors also serve as the Co-Presidents of the KNIGHTS Club at the UCF COM. In this role they are responsible for working with the KNIGHTS Club board to develop unique opportunities for the entire student body that enhance the knowledge and understanding of working with an underserved community.
Event Coordinator & Media Relations (ECMR): This committee is tasked with developing and updating our website, responding to inquiries, and sending out newsletters to students, faculty, and the community. The website is often the first impression for potential donors and physicians, and it serves as a critical portal through which our volunteers sign-up.
The Event Coordinator & Media Relations co-chairs will also serve as the Vice Presidents of the KNIGHTS Club at the UCF COM.
Finance/ Treasury: This committee keeps track of the clinic’s budget and monthly expenditures. This committee is expected to be the liaison for any requests for supplies in the clinic, and also plan and coordinate fundraising events.
Care Coordinators: This position coordinates and manages patient care through scheduling, communication and follow up care.
Physician Coordinators: The main function of this committee is to establish strong alliances with existing clinics and organizations that provide services that are not provided by the clinic. This entails making phone calls, setting up meetings, and establishing contact within that organization in order to ensure the community we are working with gets the services they need. Coordinate with upperclassmen medical students and physicians to implement specialty clinics.
Volunteer Coordinators: It is the job of the volunteer coordinators to recruit physician and student volunteers, ensure the clinic is staffed with necessary medical students, answer questions and concerns of volunteers and organize the staffing of the floor manager position.
Electronic Medical Record (EMR): The primary role of this committee will be to train volunteers and physicians on EMR use and management. The coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining the website which will serve as the primary site for volunteer coordination and scheduling, and the electronic face of the clinic.
Research Coordinator: Research is a foundational piece to tracking our progress as a clinic, in addition to securing grants and funding. This committee will be responsible for time studies to be presented monthly for quality control.
Pharmacy/Dispensary: The pharmacy will be responsible for keeping track of the medication, training and recruitment of pharmacy/dispensary volunteers and implementation/maintenance of a Patient Assistance Program for the clinic.
Patient Education: The Patient Education and Peer Support program act as advocates for patients, ensuring they have the necessary support and education to understand their current conditions and medications and any other non-medical support they might need (food stamps, support groups, etc.). This committee is responsible for ensuring the appropriate educational materials are available at each clinic night.
Laboratory: The laboratory will ensure patients receive the blood tests, vaccinations, EKG’s, urinalysis, serum glucose tests, etc. necessary for proper care. This committee is also responsible for staffing the lab positions at the clinic, training lab volunteers and following up on lab results.
Quality Improvement: KNIGHTS Clinic is constantly looking for new ways to improve. Our QI committee is in charge of finding ways that we can improve both in and out of the clinic.
Student Provider Experts (SPE): The SPE committee is KNIGHTS Clinic’s newest committee. SPEs are responsible for recording the vitals and conducting the patient history and physical examination. SPEs help facilitate continuity of care by developing rapport with patients and passing on relevant information from patients’ previous visits to attendings and new student volunteers.
