Student PURE Program

The Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology Program for Undergraduate Research (PURE) is designed to further enhance the undergraduate research experience. This highly competitive program will admit approximately 15-20 M&M majors a year. As part of a community of undergraduate researchers, participants will have greater access to the faculty, will gain additional training in the practice and communication of science, will receive preparation for post-graduate education and career opportunities, and will be encouraged to present their work at scientific conferences.

There are approximately 80 undergraduate students conducting biomedical research with faculty members in the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences. With this experience, students gain a hands-on approach to learning science. Research provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge of biomedical science, to understand the scientific method, and to formulate an accurate view of the research experience.
