Dr. Latha Ganti is the Vice Chair for Research & Academic Affairs for the University of Central Florida/HCA Emergency Medicine Residency Programs, and is the recipient of the American Academy of Neurology AB Baker Teaching Award, and the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD) and Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine (CDEM) Distinguished Educator Awards.

With over 15 years of emergency medicine experience, Dr. Ganti brings a “can-do!” attitude to most every project in our department, whether it be publishing a paper, navigating research bureaucracy or designing a protocol to address a vexing ED quality or operations concern. In addition to her service to the EM residency program, Dr. Ganti uses her vascular neurology fellowship training as an active teacher for our Neurology Residency Program, where she directs the course in clinical and translational science, oversees resident research projects, and interviews residency candidates. She is a graduate of the American Academy of Neurology’s Women’s Leaders in Neurology Program.

Dr. Ganti has published extensively in the field of neurologic emergencies including acute stroke and brain injury, with high impact. Her Google scholar citations reveal an i10H-index of 81, with more than 5400 citations to her work just in the last few years and over 310 pubmed indexed papers.

Dr. Ganti’s expertise is in harnessing the power of data to solve clinical problems such as hospital re-admissions, practice inconsistencies, delays in hospital discharges, suboptimal emergency department throughput, low patient satisfaction scores, and lack of community awareness of medical emergencies. By approaching the operational issue from a scholarly perspective, the published works afford better buy-in from stakeholders. Her research has been adopted into position papers and clinical policies by the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Neurology. Her passion to seamlessly integrate research with outstanding patient care, education and advocacy led to the creation of the UF Center for Brain Injury Research and Education, for which she was the Inaugural Director. Her contributions to developing research enterprises have been recognized by the Mayo Clinic Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contributions in EM Research, and the Toral Family Foundation Endowed Professorship in Traumatic Brain injury.

Dr. Ganti is a gifted teacher, as evidenced by her many teaching awards. She is the author of the First Aid Clerkship books, which are the number one best sellers amongst medical students. Dr. Ganti is a published scholar with over 700 scientific abstracts and manuscripts, and 26 books (https://bit.ly/LathaGantiBOOKS). Indeed, one of the talks she frequently gives at national and international meetings is entitled: “Get Published Now!” She is a sought-after speaker, and has lectured as a Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School, and in various parts of the world, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Denmark, Ireland, Spain, France, India, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

Dr. Ganti is the founding Editor in Chief for the International Journal of Emergency Medicine, one of the most widely read open access journals in EM. Dr. Ganti serves on several committees for ACEP, SAEM, and the American Medical Association. She also serves as a Scientific Review Officer for the United States Military’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs and is a member of AMSUS, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.

Dr. Ganti has won over 18 national awards, including the EMRA Academic Excellence award, the ACEP National Faculty Teaching award, the AMA’s William Beaumont Award, the first EMRA Mentorship Award and was also celebrated as one of the “Heroes in Emergency Medicine” by the American College of Emergency Physicians in honor of the organization’s 40th anniversary. She won the American Medical Association Young Physician Section Award for Community Service, for her work on stroke research, education, and outreach- a program she titled BEST for “Better Early Stroke Treatment.” Dr. Ganti is also the recipient of the AMA’s “Inspirational Physician Award” for her work mentoring women physicians as well as the AMA Excellence in Medicine Leadership Award. A passionate scholar and lifelong student, she was also honored as a Fulbright Scholar for her project entitled “Strategy & Innovation in Clinical Research for the Global Health Era.”
