Dr. Cendán is a board-certified surgeon with a clinical focus on minimally invasive surgery and surgical disorders of the breast. His special interests include medical education and simulation. Dr. Cendán is an active researcher whose laboratory has active R01 grant funding from the NIH and NSF.
Dr. Cendán began his medical career at the University of Florida (UF) completing a research fellowship in the Surgical Metabolism Laboratory during his surgical training in the Surgery Department at UF. Following four years in the private sector, Dr. Cendán returned to the academic environment where he became active in medical education serving on the UF Admissions Committee and as a member of the Standardized Patient Center leadership (the Harrell Center) of which he eventually became Medical Director. While serving in these roles, Dr. Cendán was awarded multiple teaching and clinical excellence recognition awards. In July 2009, Dr. Cendán was appointed as the Assistant Dean for Simulation and Medical Director of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center at the UF College of Medicine.
The University of Central Florida College of Medicine welcomed Dr. Cendán in July 2010. He was appointed Assistant Dean for Simulation, a post he held until February 2018. In the interim, he was promoted to Professor with tenure and became Chairman, Department of Medical Education in January 2015.
