ACCREDITATION

ORGANIZATION
The college is administratively composed of a School and Departments. Each unit reports directly to the Dean. Each Department or School is administered by a Chair or Director who is responsible for the organization and implementation of its programs. Each administrative department is administered by an Associate Dean.

DEAN’S OFFICE
The Dean for the College of Medicine is responsible directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President of the University and serves as the senior leader of the College of Medicine.

The responsibilities of the position include communicating the vision; fostering collaboration externally with public and private stakeholders, and internally among the faculty, staff, and students; providing an environment that promotes excellence in education, research, healthcare delivery, and service; creating and implementing a curriculum that exceeds accreditation standards; maintaining agreements with other colleges within the University and the affiliated clinical sites; and developing and deploying adequate resources for faculty and students. As such, the Dean has the responsibility to provide effective oversight of the financial and operational performance of the College of Medicine and its operating units. Each of the Associate Deans whose role is described below reports to the Dean.

The Dean also serves as Vice President for Medical Affairs for the university. In this role, the Dean reports to the President and oversees the College of Medicine’s practice plan and other medical initiatives.

CLINICAL AFFAIRS
The Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs (ADCA) facilitates the provision of input concerning all clinical issues and leads the clinical enterprise in the College, including coordination of clinical endeavors with entities outside the COM. The ADCA also coordinates the delivery of education (GME, UME) at the affiliated clinical sites.

DEVELOPMENT
The Assistant Vice President for Development is responsible for all fundraising, alumni relations and community engagement for the College. The office generates significant philanthropic support from the local and national community for academic programs, faculty, students, facilities and equipment.

FACULTY AND ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
The Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs (ADFAA) is responsible for matters such as faculty recruitment and hiring; undergraduate, graduate and continuous professional development; faculty development; formulating and implementing the policies and procedures for appointments, promotion and tenure; data collection, reporting and analysis; LCME accreditation; program assessment; program reviews; knowledge management, which includes educational technology and support services; and the health sciences library.

ADMINISTRATION, FINANCE AND OPERATIONS
The Associate Vice President for Administration, Finance and Operations (AVP-AFO) is responsible for the overall administrative oversight and management of the College; oversight of facilities to include capital projects; human resource functions; and aligning the overall financial objectives with the needs of the College. Also, the AVP-AFO has responsibility for the oversight of clinical administration, operations and financial success.

HEALTH AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
The Associate Vice President for Health and Information Technology (AVP-HIT) is responsible for the oversight of information technology and health information services for the Health Sciences campus.

MEDICAL AFFAIRS AND CHIEF LEGAL OFFICER
The Associate Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Legal Officer (AVP-MA/ CLO) coordinate strategic and business opportunities for the College including affiliations and partnerships that support the college’s missions and oversees the UCF Regional Extension Center. The COM Office of Legal Affairs handles legal matters, contracts, compliance, government relations, the UCF COM selfinsurance program, industry relations and other conflicts of interest, and corporate matters, in coordination with the UCF Office of General Counsel.

RESEARCH
The Associate Dean for Research (ADR) plays a strategic role in identifying current and future trends in biomedical research and helps the Dean to develop short and long range research goals and objectives for the College. ADR is responsible for research activities within the college and serves as the contact for synergistic research within the university, neighboring institutions, and in the Central Florida community. The ADR provides information about research opportunities and supports the development of proposals that take advantage of the expertise in the college.

STUDENT AFFAIRS
The Associate Dean for Students (ADS) is responsible for the recruitment, admission, advancement, and graduation of students; upholding of student rights and responsibilities in the discipline and conduct processes, including appeals; student services to include the registration and scheduling of academic programs; student records; financial aid; and enhancing student growth and development through academic, career, and personal counseling.
