About Meirelys Castro, MD

Dr. Meirelys Castro is a board certified Family Physician. She received her M.D. degree and completed her residency program in Family Medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Dr. Castro conducted a research investigation, with the Department of Biology at the University of Miami, of spatial allozyme variations in South Florida populations of the mosquitofish Gambusia holbrooki.

The UCF College of Medicine welcomed Dr. Castro as an Assistant Professor in the Internal Medicine department in November of 2016. She has over 15 years of experience in patient care. Before joining UCF, Dr. Castro served as a Preceptor Physician for the University of Florida. She taught a Medical Spanish course for physicians and medical students and was a Gross Anatomy teaching assistant with the University of Florida. Additionally, Dr. Castro served as a University of Florida Adjunct Professor for the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine.

Dr. Castro previously served as a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Alachua County Medical Society. Dr. Castro is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, Chapman Chapter, at the University of Florida College of Medicine. In addition, she is bi-lingual. Dr. Castro enjoys volunteering at her local elementary school, including presenting health topics on wellness and prevention to elementary students.
