About Jonathan D. Kibble, Ph.D.
Dr. Kibble started out as a medical student at the University of Manchester, where he completed Pre-Clerkship training. He took a year off to earn a physiology degree and became so interested that he continued to gain a PhD in renal physiology.
In his first faculty position at the University of Sheffield Medical School, Dr. Kibble started a research laboratory to investigate the molecular physiology of renal tubular ion transport. His passion for teaching was ignited at this time as he began to teach medical physiology and anatomy. Next he became a Course Director for Medical Physiology at St. George’s University in the West Indies and later at The Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada. The experience of teaching over 4,000 medical students in different parts of the world has established his academic base as a physiology teacher.
His academic interests include developing learning materials; he has published a textbook of medical physiology, a series of mobile apps and is now working on flashcards for pathophysiology. His research interests in education focus on assessment and evaluation. Kibble is an Associate Editor for the journal Advances in Physiology Education.
Dr. Kibble joined the College of Medicine in 2008 to assist in the development of physiology content for HB-2 and systems-based modules. In 2010, Dr. Kibble was appointed as Assistant Dean for Medical Education and is responsible for overseeing the development of basic science content throughout the curriculum.
Dr. Kibble was elected as Chair of the American Physiological Society Teaching Section in 2014 and received the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award in 2015.
