Biography
Dr. Kimia Seyedmadani is a biomedical engineer, aerospace medicine researcher, and spaceflight systems leader whose work bridges engineering, medicine, human physiology, and space exploration. She currently serves as a Technical Lead at NASA Johnson Space Center, where she leads the development, flight certification, integration, and sustaining of biomedical and countermeasure technologies supporting human health during NASA’s Artemis missions to the Moon.
Dr. Seyedmadani’s work focuses on translating advances in biomedical engineering and human spaceflight into technologies and approaches that can improve clinical care and human health on Earth. She also serves as a NASA hardware liaison to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, supporting the safety and efficacy of biomedical technologies for spaceflight and advancing dialogue around their clinical and terrestrial applications.
Throughout her career in medical devices and diagnostics, Dr. Seyedmadani has contributed to the development of more than 50 biomedical instruments, primarily Class I and Class II medical devices. Her interdisciplinary research spans human physiology and performance, including neuro-ocular and musculoskeletal health, with a particular interest in human adaptation and resilience in extreme environments. Her work has received multiple design and patent awards, and in 2023 she received the NASA Silver Achievement Medal for contributions to bioastronautics.
Dr. Seyedmadani is passionate about medical and engineering education and mentoring the next generation of physicians, scientists, and engineers. As an educator, she seeks to connect clinical medicine, biomedical research, and engineering innovation to advance human health and performance both in space and on Earth.
