Biography

Dr. Jeffery A. Jones (US Navy Capt., ret.) is an active researcher and professor at the Center for Space Medicine and Urology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). He is also the Deputy Operative Care Line Executive for Inpatient Services and the Chief of Urology at the Michael E DeBakey VAMC.

Dr. Jones graduated Magna Cum Laude from Trinity University in 1981 and Alpha Omega Alpha while earning an M.D. from BCM in 1984. He then completed his surgical residency in general surgery and urology at Indiana University Hospitals, after which he served as both a US Navy and NASA flight surgeon for a total 40 Shuttle and ISS missions. He was the lead flight surgeon for ISS during Expeditions 2-12 and then for Exploration Medicine during the Constellation Program.

He has participated in over 5,000 major surgical operations, has over 500 hours flight time in 27 different fixed and rotary wing military aircraft, published over 250 peer-reviewed abstracts/manuscripts, 20 book chapters, mentored many students/residents/fellows, and given over 200 invited addresses.

Dr. Jones is also on the faculty at UTMB and International Space University, chair of the MEDVAMC Robotic Surgical Committee, and president for Society of Government Service Urologists. He is Past President for the Society of NASA Flight Surgeons, Life Sciences Bioengineering Branch of the Aerospace Medical Association and the Urologic Society for American Veterans.

In his personal time, Capt. Jones enjoys scuba diving, rock climbing, water and snow skiing, golf, tennis, wind-surfing, and performing with several music groups.
