Biography

Hans received his MD and PhD degrees from the School of Medicine at the University of Mainz, Germany. After a residency in Internal Medicine/Cardiology at the University of Halle, Germany, and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Utah (U of U), he joined the faculty of the U of U in 2008. In 2012, Hans was awarded a prestigious Lichtenberg-Professorship for Experimental Hemostasis, and returned to Germany. There, he directed a basic research laboratory within the Department of Transfusion Medicine. Hans returned to the U of U in September of 2015 as an Assistant Professor, Research Track. In 2017, he started his residency training in Occupational Medicine, passing ABPM boards in 2020.

Currently, he serves as the PI of a NASA ROSES grant, which includes ground experiments, ISS flight, human subject study and irradiation GCR simulation elements. He is an active member of the NASA GeneLab Multiomics working group, a Fellow of ACOEM, and an Associate Fellow of AsMA. Finally, he is a practicing physician in Occupational Medicine/Aerospace Medicine, Assistant Professor in the Aerospace Medicine Program at the University of Central Florida, and the Associate Director for Translational Aerospace Medicine Research at the UCF Center for Aerospace and Extreme Environments Medicine (CASEEM).
