Dr. Hoffman is an Associate Dean in the College of Health Professions and Sciences, Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, with a joint appointment in Internal Medicine within the College of Medicine at the University of Central Florida. Dr. Hoffman served as Director of the Center for Voice Care and Swallowing Disorders for more than 22 years treating individuals with voice and upper airway disorders specializing in professional, and neurogenic populations, along with individuals undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer. Dr. Hoffman received her doctoral degree from the University of Florida in 2001.
Her research involves studying novel treatment technologies and biomechanical mechanisms for disorders of respiratory and laryngeal function, while defining the high impact on quality-of-life factors. She implements computational modeling of upper and lower airway function, endoscopy of individuals with dysphonia, and respiratory muscle strength training in a variety of patient groups. Her work in immersive technologies and holoportation has earned significant recognition.
Dr. Hoffman’s interest in aerospace research is in exploring how prolonged exposure to microgravity environments affects respiratory muscle function and its impact on voice, speech, swallowing and other airway protective functions.
Dr. Hoffman has a significant record of peer-reviewed publications, authorship of three textbooks: Respiratory Muscle Strength Training; Voice Disorders and Cases in head and Neck Cancer: A Multidisciplinary Approach. She actively lectures across the country and internationally on these topics.
