Medical school is a particularly trying time and it is normal to feel overwhelmed at times. There is so much to learn, long hours of lectures and studying, as well as outside stressors that can impact students. Sometimes students are able to handle this stress on their own or by talking to friends and family. But, many times students need additional support. The counseling center is available to provide this support. Many of the students that come to the counseling center are ones who want to learn to cope with the demands of medical school more effectively. Others seek counseling to deal with broader life issues. Whatever the focus, students are encouraged to seek the help they need.
Counseling is available for medical students through the UCF Counseling Center. The UCF Counseling Center Health Sciences Campus office is located in the medical education building, Suite 416. For information on the counseling center located on the UCF main campus, please log on to www.counseling.sdes.ucf.edu.
Counseling services are free to all currently enrolled students.
The HSC Counseling Center Office therapist will provide the following services to enrolled UCF students: short-term individual therapy, crisis intervention services, referrals to UCF psychiatrists, group therapy, and couples therapy (if both members of the couple are enrolled UCF students). For those students needing additional services, the therapist will help students connect to community resources that might be helpful. Such resources include longer term therapy, community-based psychiatric services, and financial resources. The therapist will also be available for consultations with faculty, staff, and students, who have concerns about others in their academic community.
As common College of Medicine student needs and interests are identified, the therapist will also be able to provide workshops or presentations on these topics.
All counseling services at the HSC Counseling Center Office are provided by David Tredinnick, Psy.D.
In addition, students are also able to make an appointment with Andrew Kleiman, M.D. Dr. Kleiman is located in Winter Park, and can be reached at (407) 339-3338.
The University Counseling Center knows that emergencies and crises do not always happen during regular business hours. In fact, students often struggle with issues such as anxiety, depression, family or relationship difficulties, academic pressures, concerns about friends and roommates, or worries about the future.

You or a friend is experiencing distress and needs someone to talk with in the middle of the night or on the weekend, they can call the Counseling Center’s main number 407.823.2811, press #5 and they will be immediately connected to a licensed therapist.
